An early-morning brawl on NYC’s Grand Central subway platform escalated on Tuesday, with two men stabbing each other with knives.

Rafael Santiago, 30, and Jason Chatham, 50, were involved in an altercation on the northbound 4, 5, and 6 train platform at 42nd Street-Grand Central just before 1 a.m., according to The New York Post, citing authorities.
The brawling subway goers were left with slashes and stabs to the arms. Emergency responders treated Chatham at the scene. Meanwhile, Santiago was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was reported to be conscious and alert, according to police.
The details of the dispute remain unclear, as does whether the two men were acquainted.
Both men were arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault, according to sources. Authorities also recovered a knife at the scene, according to The Post.
According to sources, Chatham has a history of prior arrests, including charges of robbery and rape. Meanwhile, Santiago is reported to have no criminal record.
NYC’s Subways Have Been Plagued with Crime Over the Past Few Days Alone
The incident follows another stabbing at the same subway location just days ago.
Malik Little, a 46-year-old Metro-North passenger, was charged with attempted murder on Saturday after allegedly stabbing another man who confronted him over playing loud music, according to MTA Police. The incident occurred when the train arrived at Grand Central Terminal.
Little was playing music on his phone’s speaker when a 31-year-old passenger objected to the noise. The argument escalated, and Little stabbed the man twice in the chest as the train arrived at Grand Central, according to the MTAPD.
The victim got off the train and quickly identified his attacker to police on the platform. Officers arrested Little at the scene without resistance and found a knife, according to the MTAPD. The 31-year-old victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Yet another knife attack occurred at the subway on Christmas Eve, Jason Sargeant was accused of assaulting a man and a woman in a violent altercation at Grand Central. According to the NYPD, he allegedly slashed the man’s wrist and the woman’s neck during the incident.
Meanwhile, two teenage boys allegedly stole a 17-year-old girl’s headphones in a brazen daylight robbery inside the 23rd Street No. 6 train station on Monday afternoon, around 2 p.m., according to law enforcement sources.
As she approached the turnstiles, two individuals came up behind her and snatched her Apple AirPods Pro Max, according to sources. Officers quickly responded and apprehended both suspects, aged 15 and 17, the sources reported.
