Darius Morris, a 33-year-old NBA star, died on May 4. A little over a month after his passing, Morris’ cause of death has finally been revealed.

His cause of death is listed as coronary heart disease, with drug and alcohol use playing a role. This is according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner – first reported by ABC 7 and TMZ Sports.
A lawyer representing the Morris family confirmed on Friday that no drugs were found at the scene. Law enforcement authorities also did not find evidence of foul play.

Morris’ family confirmed the news of his death in a statement to TMZ back in May.
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Morris was a second-round draft pick by the Lakers in 2011. He played alongside Kobe Bryant for two seasons. During his NBA career, he also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets.
After leaving the NBA in 2015, Morris played for teams in Russia and France.
LA Times beat writer Mike Bresnahan posted a heartfelt tribute to Morris after his passing.
“Darius was an absolutely super nice guy. He always had a smile,” Bresnahan stated. “What I appreciated was that when he made it to the NBA, he decided he was going to enjoy every minute of it. He was going to have fun. Darius never forgot that part of it.”
