DeRon Horton, an actor known for roles in Dear White People and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, took to Instagram last week to reveal a scary injury he suffered over the holidays.

“Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list 😂🎅🏽 but it happened,” he captioned a series of photos. “Mf shot thru the car at me bullet broke my arm shattered it all type o shit. But I’m Blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed Lord Thank You. I’m out the hospital now healing💯.”
Horton shared that he was “mad” about not being able to work out while he recovers, but admitted “it coulda been worse.”

“I don’t need no sympathy I’m finna bounce right back I feel amazing 💯💯 I just wanted to remind yall and myself to Keep God first!” he continued. “I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones.”
He also thanked family and friends for their support. “Everybody that checked on me n holla’d at me specially my family n friends I love yall, Thank you.”
Horton’s post included photos of himself in a hospital bed with his arm in a cast. He included pics of the injury before and after surgery and an X-ray that showed his broken bone. Additionally, he shared a photo of how the bullet shattered his car window.
The actor received an outpouring of support in his comments. His Ptolemy Grey co-star, Samuel L. Jackson, was at the top of the list.
