The Rizzoli & Isles star shared that Oliver was shot and killed on March 30 by Instacart delivery driver, Christopher Anthony Reid. Although he confessed to killing the pup, Reid claimed he did so in self-defense.
Now, Angie Harmon, who continues to mourn the loss of Oliver, has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $25,000 in damages. The exact amount will be revealed during the trial.
During her recent interview with PEOPLE, Harmon stated she is pursuing legal action to make sure such a horrific incident doesn’t happen again. She explained Reid was delivering groceries to her house when he fired a single shot at the German Shepherd and Beagle mix.
Her daughter, Avery alerted her of what happened by screaming, “Oh my God. Oh my God. Did you just shoot our dog?!”
As she and Avery began to try to save Oliver, Reid allegedly just stood by and didn’t help them. “We were running, screaming, crying,” Harmon recalled. “I remember thinking how weird – like, why isn’t he helping? Why is he just watching us like entertainment?”
The actress recounted the one phrase that Reid kept repeating while standing in her yard. “Yeah, I shot your dog. I shot him.”
Angie Harmon also pointed out that the delivery driver kept repeating the remark over and over again. She noticed that Reid wasn’t agitated, afraid, mad, or even sorry for his actions.
Harmon said that after she got towels from inside the house, and calmed her youngest daughter, Emery, down, she attempted to get Oliver into her vehicle. But her legs gave out. “We picked Ollie up all the time, but I couldn’t get him in the car.”
Angie Harmon Says She Broke Down as the Emergency Vet Tried to Revive Her Dog
After finally getting to the emergency vet, Angie Harmon said she broke down and was in shock the entire time the veterinarians tried to revive her 4-year-old pup, Oliver.
“I just couldn’t breathe,” Harmon said. “I couldn’t get up, I couldn’t do anything, and I couldn’t help him as much as I kept trying, I kept failing.”
After she was able to recollect herself, Angie Harmon went inside the emergency vet, just as the veterinarians were doing CPR on Oliver. “They did that for 7 to 13 minutes. And then everything went really still. There I was watching him covered in blood.”
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Harmon stated that she believed to be interacting with a delivery driver named “Merle” earlier that day. However, Reid showed up at her home instead of the older woman who appeared in the delivery app’s profile.
The documents also indicated that Reid’s father is also named Merle. Harmon’s legal team believes that Reid was impersonating Merle on the app. Harmon stated she had no idea she had been communicating with Reid. He appeared to be “a tall and intimidating younger man,” instead of Merle.
Harmon’s lawsuit also alleged that Reid was “not injured” or “seriously threatened” by Oliver. She further pointed out that Reid had “ample opportunity” to leave the property unharmed without having to shoot the pup.
Harmon is now suing for alleged trespassing, conversion, negligence, negligent supervision/hiring, invasion of privacy, and negligent misrepresentation.
