Potter, who was known as Comicstorian to his more than three million subscribers, passed away on Saturday, June 8, in a single-vehicle car crash.
In a press release, the Colorado State Patrol revealed that the accident happened at 9:19 a.m. local time on I-25 near Fort Collins.
“The Windsor resident was southbound on I-25 at milepost 267.5 when his silver Toyota 4Runner traveled off the right shoulder of the interstate,” the statement reads. “He continued to cross over the frontage road paralleling the interstate before rolling his vehicle multiple times.”
Although Ben Potter was wearing his seatbelt during the crash, he succumbed to his injuries while at the scene.
The Colorado State Patrol confirmed that Potter was the only occupant in the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.
It was further reported that the cause of the crash is being investigated. However, the Colorado State Patrol stated impairment and excessive speed do not appear to be factors.
Through his well-known YouTube channel, Ben Potter would share his original audio dramas of comic books. He would cover and analyze details about both the Marvel and DC Universes. His last video, Why DC’s Reboots Beat Marvel, was posted just one day before his death.
Ben Potter’s Wife Revealed He Died in an ‘Unfortunate Accident’ In Social Media Post
The statement from the Colorado State Patrol came just after Ben Potter’s wife Nathalie Potter revealed his death was an “unfortunate accident.”
“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums,” Nathalie wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for.”
She then described Ben Potter as loving and genuine. The Youtuber would also listen and make time for his loved ones. “He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it.”
Nathalie then said she wants to keep her husband’s YouTube channel going. “Ben spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies,” Nathalie wrote. “It was through his love of exciting stories and well-written characters that got him started on YouTube.”
However, she needs time to grieve. “I ask that you respect my privacy as well as everyone else’s. Right now my priority is preserving everything he’s built and I don’t have any plans beyond that.”
