During the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez revealed that she and Affleck broke up three days before their 2003 wedding. “We had a big wedding planned—14 ushers and bridesmaids,” she recalled. “And three days before, we just crumbled under the pressure.”
Ben Affleck pointed out that the ultimate reason behind his split from Jennifer Lopez was the “massive amount of scrutiny around” their private life.
The now-married couple did say that calling off their first wedding led them each on a self-discovery journey. This journey eventually helped them cross paths again and they rekindled their romance in 2021. They got married in July 2022 in Las Vegas and a month later held a large wedding in Georgia.
“For all those years, it was really hard because I didn’t just feel like I lost the love of my life,” Jennifer Lopez said about her and Ben Affleck’s split. “I felt like I lost the best friend that I ever had. And I couldn’t talk for so many years, and that was the hardest part.”
Lopez further admitted that she was angry at Affleck for quite a while. “But that heartbreak set both of us on a course to figuring ourselves out to being better people.”
Following her split from Affleck, Lopez married fellow musician Marc Anthony and had 16-year-old twins Max and Emme. Affleck married Jennifer Garner and they share kids Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
Lopez said she found peace after forgiving Affleck and herself for the past issues they had. “I feel like I came out the other side,” she added. “I’ve made it through. I’ve made something good of my life. I’m proud of that.”
Ben Affleck Didn’t Want to Share His Relationship With Jennifer Lopez on Social Media
Along with discussing the 2003 breakup, Ben Affleck revealed why he wanted to avoid sharing details about his relationship with Jennifer Lopez on social media.
“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’” Affleck explained in the documentary. “Then, I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’”
However, Affleck went on to add that he decided to compromise with Lopez about the situation. “We’re just two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
