But even though Beyoncé has toured all over the world as a world-renowned performer, things weren’t always that way. In a recent interview her mom, Tina Knowles, revealed that Beyonce did not always have the extroverted personality that you see on stage today.
Beyoncé’s Mother Reveals She Was Bullied As a Child
Tina says that she was “very shy” and “got bullied” during her childhood.
“Beyoncé, she was very shy and she got bullied a bit but the day that she stood up for someone — she didn’t stand up for herself she stood up for them,” Tina recalled.
“I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”
Knowles Gets Candid on Her Other Kids’ Personalities
Beyoncé also has a sister named Solange. And Solange has also had a pretty successful music career completely devoid of her sister. When discussing Solange’s personality, Knowles said that Solange has always carried the spirit of an “activist.”
“Solange, was her signing a petition in school, she was only in like fifth grade and she was out getting petitions signed,” Knowles added. “So she’s always been an activist.”
Although she did not give birth to Destiny’s Child Member Kelly Rowland, Tina said that she still considers her one of her children. Particularly because she and Beyoncé grew up together. When describing Kelly’s personality in her younger years, Knowles said she was always looking out for everyone else.
“Kelly was always this kid that just tried to protect everybody,” Knowles added. “I have a memory of her with her best friend Barbara and her being a mediator and just being this little peacemaker.”
Knowles also said that all of her “children” have different yet special personalities. And allowing them to lean into their individuality is what has helped shape them into who they are today.
“Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities. My three girls All handled things very differently,” she added.
“Learn their personalities and respect their individuality. Never compare the negatives, always praise the positive differences, and pay attention to the things that you can brag about them. They love it and it encourages positive behavior.
