Both of their legal teams confirmed to TMZ that the divorce was settled, signed, sealed, and delivered in the Tennesee court system. The couple married last fall and were only legally husband and wife for seven months before Billy Ray filed for divorce. He cited inappropriate marital misconduct as the reason for the split.
Although Firerose didn’t receive any money in the settlement, Billy Ray is giving his claims to credits and royalties for songs the former spouses wrote and published together.
The attorneys representing Billy Ray Cyrus, Rose Palermo and Jason Talley, told TMZ that the country star and Firerose reached a divorce settlement agreement during mediation on Friday, Aug. 3. By Monday, Aug. 5, the Tennessee court system declared them divorced.
TMZ also reported that Firerose had recently changed her last name from Hodges to Cyrus. Billy Ray stated the legal name change made his conclusions of her using him for last name accurate.
After the divorce was officially finalized, Billy Ray Cyrus issued a statement. “This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of. Let alone the fact I’m right in the center and basically the target of the scheme. It’s unfortunate it played out this way.”
“Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger,” he added. “It was a matter of the heart. Love is blind, that’s for sure.”
Firerose Previously Accused Billy Ray Cyrus During Divorce Proceedings
While going through the divorce proceedings, Firerose accused Billy Ray Cyrus of domestic abuse. “Wife was subjected to Husband’s persistent drug use accompanied with the consumption of marijuana,” the complaint reads. “Which made Husband unpredictable and volatile towards Wife.”
She also claimed that Billy Ray left her after she found out she needed a preventative double mastectomy.
Calling Firerose’s claims “mind-boggling,” Billy Ray Cyrus’ issued a response. “While the Plaintiff would acknowledge that he was certainly vocal, frustrated and angry with the Defendant in May 2024, it is the Plaintiff who, in fact, has been abused. Not only verbally and emotionally by the Defendant, but PHYSICALLY abused by Defendant.”
Sources close to Firerose stated that the divorce would have gone in her favor if litigation actually went to court. “If this went to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided a significant amount of evidence,” they said. “To prove he fabricated a narrative that would benefit his public image.”
They then said there is no doubt that Firerose would have been awarded the divorce. “There is no doubt she would have been awarded the divorce,” the insider stated. “It was much more important to her that this continuous smear campaign end, and the emotional turmoil stop.”
They added that Firerose can now close the door on Billy Ray Cyrus and move on.
