Colleen Hoover’s popular book has been adapted into a film, and fans are losing it over the trailer. With Swift’s emotional lyrics playing in the background, the scenes truly come to life for viewers.
It Ends With Us is a heartbreaking yet touching story about a woman who falls in love with a man with a dark past. The man’s troubles don’t just haunt him — they haunt his love interests, too. Quickly, the couple’s initially loving relationship turns into a toxic and abusive one.
The book summary reads:
“Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.”
Ryle, played by Justin Baldoni in the film, isn’t who he seems to be.
“Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant,” the blurb reads. “He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily … Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.”
Later in the book — and in the film — readers and viewers quickly discover the darkness that lives within Ryle. Firsthand, they see how it affects Lily (played by Lively).
“As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind,” Hoover’s synopsis reads. “He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.”
