The incident occurred just hours before the kickoff of the game between the Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In the video, several motorcycle officers are seen pulling over Hill after he seemed to speed past them on his way to the game. It quickly became tense when one officer tapped on the wide receiver’s window.
“Don’t knock on my window like that, man,” Tyreek Hill demands of the cops.
Hill seemingly ignores the officer’s questions about why the NFL star isn’t wearing his seatbelt.
“Just give me my ticket, bro, so I can go,” Hill later tells the cops. “I’m fixing to be late, man. Do what you got to do.”
To further indicate the conversation is over, Hill then begins to roll up his window.
“Hey! Keep your window down,” an officer can be heard bellowing.
The officer knocked on the window again, and when Hill only rolled it down a few inches, the cop ordered him to get out of the car.
Hill hesitated to exit the vehicle, prompting one officer to swing open the door and pull him out. The officer then pressed his knee into Hill’s back and secured handcuffs around his wrists.
“When we tell you to do something, you do it, you understand?!,” one officer can be heard saying.
Teammates and Agents Come to the Aid of Tyreek Hill After He Was Detained by Cops
Cops eventually helped Hill to his feet and attempted to have him sit on a nearby curb. When he hesitated to comply, officers forced him down.
At that moment, Hill yelled about having undergone recent knee surgery. One officer, noticing his lack of cooperation, sarcastically inquired whether Hill had also had a procedure on his ears.
Shortly after, two of Hill’s teammates—Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith—arrived at the scene. However, the police instructed them to step back, threatening to cuff them if they did not comply.
Eventually, Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus arrives at the scene and seemingly smoothes things over.
However, the police eventually released Hill, giving him two traffic citations and allowing him to participate in the game.
On Monday, the Miami-Dade police department released over 105 minutes of footage from officer-worn cameras. In a statement, department director Stephanie Daniels emphasized this action as part of their commitment to transparency and the maintenance of public trust.
Meanwhile, a lawyer representing Hill stated that the actions of the police were “excessive” and affirmed that Hill would pursue legal action.
