“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, told the outlet. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Meanwhile, a source close to Jolie added, “She doesn’t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time.”
Jolie and Pitt had been together for 12 years and married for two when she filed for divorce on September 19, 2016.
The filing, in which Jolie cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, came days after a now-infamous fight on a private plane. Jolie claimed that Pitt was abusive to her and some of their six children on that plane, which he denied.
Since then, the two have been entangled in a contentious court battle. The legal proceedings have largely centered around custody issues and their French winery.
They were declared legally single in 2019. While Jolie has yet to be publicly linked to anyone else, in 2022, Pitt entered into a relationship with Ines de Ramon.
