In her latest Instagram post, Spears is seen wearing a sheer dress with a cathedral-length wedding veil on her head. “The day I married myself,” she wrote in the caption. “Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done.”
Shortly before her split with Asghari was announced, Britney Spears decided to “marry” herself. “Yeah … I married myself!!!” she stated with a bridal emoji. “I got bored, liked my veil, and said IS THIS CRAZY??? OR IS THERE SOMETHING TO IT???”
She did clarify she was still married to Asghari at the time. However, not like after the post was made, the couple announced their breakup.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari were first romantically linked after meeting on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video. After her father Jamie Spears filed a petition to end her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, the couple announced their engagement. They married in June 2022.
Unfortunately, after 14 months of marriage, Spears and Asghari announced they were done in August 2023. The divorce was finalized in early 2024.
Before Asghari, Spears was married to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline. She shares two sons with Federline.
Sam Asghari Previously Opened Up About His 14-month Marriage to Britney Spears
Just after the divorce was finalized, Sam Asghari opened up about being married to Britney Spears for 14 months.
“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time,” Asghari told PEOPLE. “And people grow apart and people move on.”
Although he was the one who filed for divorce, Asghari clarified that he has no “ill will” against his ex-wife.
“I’ve always hated people leaving a certain relationship,” he explained. “And at some point, they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other. That’s something I’m never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that’s always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”
Following the breakup and as he was turning 30, Asghari focused on his career and his “healthy lifestyle.”
“I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school,” he noted. “But every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he says. “And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that’s something that I’m just super excited to just be fulfilled with.”
