While on stage at Levity Live in Oxnard, CA last weekend, D’Elia noticed the man not looking well. “You all right, bro?” the comedian asked multiple times with genuine concern.
After the man appeared to be okay, Chris D’Elia declared to the stand-up show audience, “F— yeah, a round of applause for this guy who almost died. You’re all right, you’re good, right? Is that something that happens?”
However, not long after confirming he was ok, the man started seizing again. “No, not he’s not okay,” D’Elia said on stage. “We should call an ambulance, somebody?”
A couple of audience members carried the man away from the seating area. “A round of applause,” the comedian said again.
The entire ordeal was caught on video, which D’Elia posted on his Instagram.
“Audience member has seizure in the front row.,” D’Elia stated in the caption. “This has not happened in all of my 19 years of stand-up. Dealing with this was WILD.”
Chris D’elia Makes a ‘Too Soon’ Joke About the Audience Member Who Had Seizure
After getting back to doing the stand-up show, Chris D’elia decided to use the situation as part of his bit. Unfortunately, that didn’t go very well.
“Let’s was with him,” D’Elia said while referencing the man. “Whoa, that’s crazy. I guess that Pride Month bit really hit him hard.”
The joke made one audience member declare loudly, “Too soon.”
This sent D’Elia into a rant on stage. “Too soon,” he said. “It happened now during the comedy show. What do you mean too soon. What am I supposed to do, a f—ing monologue from a Tennessee Williams play?”
He continued his rant by stating, “’Too soon. It’s the godd– comedy club; this s—t happened in the front row. It didn’t happen back there. You guys are like, ‘Be cool dude’. Well, f—k you, dude. You know how hard this s–t right now and the guy almost died.”
The stand-up show chaos came a little over a year after 10 women told Rolling Stone that D’Elia left them traumatized with predatory behavior.
D’Elia was accused of asking the women for sexual images and videos, as well as asking for sexual favors. This was all in exchange for free tickets to his shows. He also sexually solicited them on social media.
He then tracked their locations, picked out outfits, imposed curfews, and even forced some of them to get a tattoo of his initials.
Following the interview, D’Elia was dropped by his talent agents. He was also denounced by his friends and colleagues.
D’Elia has denied all allegations.
