Currently, the family doesn’t know what caused McFarr’s death. Authorities are investigating his passing and performing the appropriate tests. “An exam has already taken place and cause/manner of death is pending toxicology results,” the Orange County Medical Examiner’s office told Fox News Digital.
McFarr famously worked alongside Pratt as his stunt double on several high-profile films. For instance, he worked together with him on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017 as well as 2015’s Jurrassic World. They would reunite for its sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
They would also work together for Pratt’s controversial romantic film Passengers in 2016. That film revolved around a romance on a space ship but featured several stunts requiring McFarr’s work.
Given their close proximity working together, it’s safe to say that the two shared a bond. Upon learning of his passing, Pratt took to social media to remember his collaborator.
Tony McFarr Was A Hollywood Mainstay
“Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr,” Pratt wrote. “We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set.
He continued, “I’ll never forget his toughness. I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of Guardians 2) and got several staples in his head – he came right back to work ready to go again.”
Pratt said he would be praying for his family, writing, “He was an absolute stud. He was always a gentleman and a professional. He’ll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter.”
In addition to his tribute, Pratt also shared photos of himself and McFarr in matching costumes for Jurassic World and Passengers. Outside of his collaborations with Pratt, McFarr had a very successful career in Hollywood. He doubled for Jon Ham in the 2018 film Tag. He also did stunt work on other films in the Marvel franchise.
You can see McFarr’s work in a number of films including The Hunger Games franchise, Planet of the Ape franchise, Jumanji sequel, and even the third Conjuring film. His co-stars and fans will remember him for his contributions to the industry.
