While Coldplay was wrapping up their performance at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 3, Chris Martin waved to the crowd as he walked backward into the trap door. The crowd gasped in unison as nearby crew members ran to his aid.
“That’s not planned!” the 47-year-old singer declared. He then joked, “Holy s—, that was nearly a YouTube moment!”
Chris Martin also thanked the crew members for assisting him.
The whole ordeal was caught on video and posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The moment Chris Martin fell through a trapdoor right in front of me at the #Coldplay concert tonight,” the person who posted the video wrote.

Many X users quickly commented on the post in bewilderment. “My,” one person wrote. “How on earth did this happen? He could have been seriously injured. Glad he’s ok.”
Another concerned X user wrote, “How is it that a stage crew allows a stage trap to be open so that it presents a serious falling hazard??”
Martin’s onstage injury comes nearly two weeks after Billie Eilish suffered a shocking fall on stage. As she said good night to her audience, the “What Was I Made For?” hitmaker noticeably slipped and fell over while walking down stage stairs. She impressively got back up quickly and continued her exit.
Other musicians who experienced onstage tumbles recently are Olivia Rodrigo and Melanie Martinez.

“Coldplay have officially broken our all-time largest attendance record for a band at Marvel Stadium, with 227k people attending across the four Music of The Spheres World Tour shows held at the Stadium,” the venue confirmed on Instagram on Monday, Nov. 4.
Meanwhile, the record for the highest-attended concert is by fellow British musician Adele, who attracted 77,327 audience members to her March 19, 2017 performance at the venue.
Ed Sheeran previously broke the record for the largest attendance for a concert series by a single artist. While performing at the venue in March 2018, he had 257,751 audience members.
