Scottish comedian Janey Godley passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the age of 63 following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

Her daughter Ashley Storrie took to her Instagram account to announce the news. “Earlier this morning Janey passed away in her sleep,” Storrie wrote in the post’s caption. “Her family were with her. The love and support from all her friends and fans during this cancer journey brought her enormous joy. It has also been a huge comfort to us, her family and close friends, thank you”
Storrie also shared, “We will take time now to comfort one another and wish to thank everyone for respecting our privacy at this time. Remember her in your laughter, she would have liked that.”
Storrie stated in the post’s video that her mother went peacefully and thanked the staff at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. “Thank you so much for being there and for making a very, very scary moment peaceful and a nice transition,” she said to Janey’s loved ones.
She then added, “I believe in my heart of hearts that she felt every bit of love you sent to her. I think it kept her going, genuinely we got her longer because of all the support and the love in the world.”
According to the BBC, Janey Godley had been receiving palliative care after living with the cancer for years. Her condition had worsened to the point where she was forced to cancel her “Why Is She Still Here? tour in September.
She was best known for her dubbed videos of Nicola Sturgeon’s COVID-19 briefings during the 2020 pandemic.
Janey Godley Received Honorary Degree From the University of Glasgow Days Before Her Death
Less than a week before her passing, Janey Godley received an honorary degree of doctor from the University of Glasgow.
Her daughter posted the news on her Instagram account. “This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured, and I am so immensely proud of her. I am always proud of her. Congratulations Doctor Godley.”
Weeks leading up to her death, Janey Godley thanked her fans and loved ones for sending her gifts. More than anything I would love to individually thank everyone for their kind care packages and gifts,” she wrote. “But I’m so exhausted please take this as one HUGE thank you. I appreciate all support and love.”
Godley also stated at the time that she and her family were overwhelmed by the amount of love being received. She had encouraged her fans to donate to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. “They are amazing,” she added.
