According to a statement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the wholesale food retailer is pulling the Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter due to the packaging potentially missing the language that reads “contains milk.”
The Costco recall is for 46,800 pounds of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 32,400 pounds of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter.
The FDA pointed out that the label does “list cream, but may not be missing the Contains Milk statement.”

For the Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, the best-by date was Feb. 23, 2025. Meanwhile, the Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter’s best-by dates were Feb. 22, Feb. 23, Mar. 22, and Mar. 23.
Each of the Costco recall butter products had four 4-ounce sticks within it.
The FDA classified the Costco butter recall as a “Class II” due to potentially exposing consumers to “undeclared allergen.”
A Class II classification is described as a “situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Milk is among the FDA’s nine major food allergens.
Costco Previously Announced a Recall Of a Meat and Waffles Due to Potential Listeria Contamination
Last month, Costco announced a recall of the Nutristore Freeze Dried Deluxe Meat Variety #10 Cans. This is due to a potential Listeria contamination.
In a statement on Costco’s website, Nutristore shared, “In an abundance of caution, Nutristore Foods has issued a voluntary recall of the Freeze Dried Grilled Chicken that is included in the Nutristore Deluxe Meat Variety #10 Cans, (12-count) due to the potential of Listeria contamination in chicken provided by one of our suppliers.”
Consumers who have purchased the cans of chicken, but have not consumed its contents, may return the variety pack to Costco or Costco.com for a full refund.
Another item recall from Costco is TreeHouse Foods’ Krusteaz Belgian Waffles. This is due to Listeria contamination as well. The waffles were purchased between Oct. 13, 2023 and Oct. 21, 2024.
If consumers have any product remaining, it is advised they do not consume it. They are to return to the item for a full refund.
