Donald Sutherland, who is known for his roles in The Hunger Games franchise and M*A*S*H, has reportedly passed away at the age of 88.

As confirmed by his son, Kiefer Sutherland, the longtime actor died on Thursday, June 20, in Miami following a long-term illness. No further details about Sutherland’s death have been revealed.
Born on July 17, 1935, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, he started acting in the late 1950s. Among his acting roles were Animal House, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Citizen X, Ordinary People, Eye of the Needle, JFK, and Pride & Prejudice. His final film, Miranda’s Victim, made its debut last year.
Along with earning various honors for his acting, including being inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame and Hollywood Walk of Fame, Donald Sutherland was made an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) in 1978.
He was made a commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2012. He received the Companion of the Order of Canada (CC) in 2019. The actor also was a blogger for The Huffington Post during the 2008 United States presidential election.
Donald Sutherland was married three times and has five children, Kiefer, Rossif, and Angus. He is also the grandfather of actress Sarah Sutherland, who played Catherine Meyer in Veep.

Kiefer Sutherland took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to announce his father Donald’s death in a touching tribute.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer confirmed. “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
The post also featured an adorable throwback photo of Kiefer and Donald.
Fans took to the X post to share their condolences. “I wish you and ours all the strength you need,” one fan wrote. “May his memory be a blessing.”
Another fan stated, “Your father was quite wonderful. Blessings on your family.”
