Mica Miller, 30, died via a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Lumber River State Park. She called 911 before committing suicide to confirm that authorities would be able to find her body.
PEOPLE is now reporting that the FBI office in Columbia, SC is conducting a “parallel investigation” in connection to the Miller case. They are, however, not investigating Miller’s death. Damien McLean, who is with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, declined to provide further information when approached by PEOPLE.

Mica Miller’s Death Part of FBI ‘Parallel Investigation’
Kevin Wheeler, with the FBI’s field office in Columbia, did respond to PEOPLE’s request for comments. He told PEOPLE that the office is “communicating” with Robeson County authorities.
Wheeler stated, “The truth is, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department put out a statement saying that [the FBI was investigating] and all that I can tell you is that we have communicated with them. Beyond that. I can’t give you any details.”
John-Paul Miller has not commented on the FBI investigation. Mica Miller’s family has consistently called for further investigation into her death.
