Her twin sister, Sarah, confirmed the news in a post on Instagram.
“It is with profound sadness that I share the devastating loss of my twin sister and co-founder, Boo Simms, who passed away this week due to a tragic surgery complication,” Sarah wrote in the post, which features a photo of Rebecca. “This loss is immeasurable, and our hearts are completely shattered.”
Sarah then described her late sister as the “magic maker, color painter, and the brightest light” she had ever known.
“We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this overwhelmingly painful time,” she continued. “Our Carmel Valley location will be closed until further notice. Our Santa Monica location will remain open to serve you with the continued love and care that Boo always poured into everything we do.”
Sarah then wrote that the continued support means more than words could ever say.
“Thank you, from the depths of my being, for standing with us during this unimaginable time,” she added. “With gratitude, Sarah.”
According to the New York Post, the twin sisters created their food-fire business in 2016. They sell gourmet cheese and meats. Their business is known by celebrities in the Santa Monica area.
Following their success in Santa Monica, the sisters expanded their business to Carmel Valley, which is approximately 320 miles away from their flagship shop.
Rebecca’s death comes amid the Los Angeles wildfires, which have impacted the late food influencer and her sister’s business.
In a post last week, the sisters announced they would be refunding all board orders and catering for events in the weeks ahead for anyone who requested.
“No questions, no hesitation,” the sisters wrote at the time. “We’ll continue to do so because it’s the right thing to do.”
However, the sisters did note that by operating under the circumstances, they had been impacted by negative sales, a lack of fresh products, and no work for their team.
