While speaking to PEOPLE, Wagner stated General Hospital fans continue to approach him for selfies. He also said there is one thing that fans constantly say to him.
“The No. 1 thing women say is, ‘You don’t understand,’” Jack Wagner pointed out. “I used to battle it because it was so hard for me being in the music business and coming from a soap to be taken legitimately as a singing artist.”
Wagner said it took him a long time to let go of that, but now he embraces his soap opera popularity. “If I can make someone’s day by going down memory lane, it makes my day,” he shared.
While reflecting on his time on General Hospital, Jack Wagner stated it was incredible how popular the soap opera was in the ‘80s. “It’s just unbelievable to be part of it,” he shared. “To kind of launch with that show.”
Wagner further recalled how different the fandom was back in the ‘80s as well. “It was crazy, because back then, people would join fan clubs, and there would be bags and bags of fan letters.”
“I took it in stride because it was just sort of the things [that] happened to Tony Geary, Rich Springfield, and John Stamos, who were ‘teen idols.’ I guess you would call us back then.”
Jack Wagner Says Running Into Former ‘General Hospital’ Costars Feels Like Catching Up With An Old High School Friend
While continuing to chat about his time away from General Hospital, Jack Wagner stated it feels like running into an old high school friend when he sees former co-stars from the soap opera.
“It’s like you pick up right where you left off,” he said. “That’s what I would describe it as. It’s not like I talk to most of my ex-castmates all the time. But when the occasion happens where we run into each other, it’s like… We haven’t missed a beat.”
Meanwhile, Jack Wagner also spoke to PEOPLE about how he’d “absolutely entertain” making a cameo on the Melrose Place revival.
“You never really die on a soap right?” Wagner declared. ‘How they unfold those two characters [Peter and Amanda], it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story… That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather [Locklear]. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”
Among those who will appear in the Melrose Place revival are Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga, and Laura Leighton.
