The former victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and prison inmate spoke to PEOPLE about her life since leaving prison in late 2023. She was found guilty of being involved in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Although she was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison, she was released after serving eight.
“I’d describe the Gypsy-Rose who went into prison as someone who was very lost and confused,” Blanchard explained. “Now she’s a little bit more wise, has a little bit more experience under her belt, and is still very hopeful for the future.”
Blanchard went on to describe her divorce from Anderson, whom she married during a prison ceremony in 2022, as “heartbreaking.”
“It’s heartbreaking because no one gets married to get a divorce,” she said. “Processing those emotions has been hard.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard ultimately admitted the decision to get divorced was best for her. “I think that there is a sense of freedom of following your heart, following what you feel like is right for you.”
Blanchard further admitted that her marriage to Anderson wasn’t her happily ever after. “In my marriage, I felt like a part of me was lost in it, and so I feel like I found that missing piece of myself that I always felt was lost and now reclaiming that back. I definitely feel a sense of belonging in that space.”
Despite the outcome of their marriage, Gypsy Rose said she did love Ryan. She filed for divorce in early April and is now dating her ex-fiance Ken Urker
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Gushes About Ken Urker, Says She’s In Love
While speaking out about her relationship with Ken Urker, Gypsy Rose Blanchard declared the relationship is what she truly wants.
“I’m in love,” Blanchard stated. “He was a support when I was going through emotional hardship. But then I let myself open up to the feelings I’ve always had for him. For the first time in my life, I’m doing something that makes me happy — I’m prioritizing me.”
The couple reconnected earlier this year and appeared in public together after Gypsy Rose separated from Ryan. The duo insists that they initially reconnected as friends. But feelings eventually developed. They went public with their romance late last month.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard recently revealed that Urker was planning to move to Louisiana to be with her. Since her split from Anderson, she has been living with her father and stepmother in Cut Off, LA.
