Disney+ UK announced the documentary Caroline (w/t) in a press release. It is described as an original feature-length documentary celebrating the life and career of Caroline Flack.
The Disney+ film will follow Christine, Caroline Flack’s mother, as she seeks to understand the events that led to the TV host’s death.
“The documentary will feature first-hand testimony, among them Caroline’s family and friends,” Disney+ UK explained. “As Christine embarks on a journey to uncover the truth around the circumstances that led to Caroline tragically taking her own life in 2020.”
Regarding the documentary, Flack’s mother said she still had many questions about the TV host’s final months.
“It’s something I feel deeply compelled to explore,” she explained. “Even though I know it will be challenging.”
Dov Freedman, Caroline (w/t) executive producer, discussed what it meant to make the documentary.
“It’s not often that you feel the need to return to a subject, but nearly five years after Caroline’s tragic death,” he said. “We know there are still many unanswered questions for Christine and her family that need to be addressed. We’re proud to be collaborating with the Flack family once again, working together to seek some form of resolution to the tragic events surrounding Caroline’s death.”
Caroline Flack was discovered dead in her Stoke Newington, London flat on Feb. 15, 2020. The Flack family’s attorney revealed that the TV host’s sudden death was suicide by hanging. An investigation into her death was opened on Feb. 19. Following a two-day hearing, the coroner officially ruled that Flack’s death was suicide.
Caroline Flack Was Known For Her Role As Host of British Reality TV Show ‘Love Island’
Caroline Flack was known for her role as the host of the British reality TV series Love Island. She hosted the show from 2015 until 2019.
Along with Love Island, Flack was set to present a cosmetic reality series, The Surjury, on Channel 4. However, the show was canceled following her death.
Although Love Island fans loved her hosting talents, TV producer Anna Blue admitted that Flack wasn’t “emotionally wired” to deal with all the “problems” that came with fame. She notably struggled with mental issues and had even attempted suicide and self-harming on various occasions before she died in 2020.
A couple of months before her death, Flack was charged with assaulting her then-boyfriend, professional tennis player Lewis Burton. Law enforcement officers discovered her covered in blood at her Islington flat in early December 2019. She admitted that she “whacked” Burton “round the head” while he slept. She thought he was cheating on her.
Following the incident, Flack stepped down from her hosting duties on Love Island.
In one of her final Instagram posts, Flank seemingly addressed the incident.
“I’m a human being at the end of the day, and I’m not going to be silenced when I have a story to tell and a life to keep going with,” she wrote. “ I’m taking some time out to get feeling better and learn some lessons from situations I’ve got myself into to.”
“I have nothing but love to give and best wishes for everyone,” she then added.
