A stray bullet struck the Texans star amid an altercation outside of a Florida nightclub. Thankfully, the star receiver did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. He is also expected to make a full recovery.
Texans WR Tank Dell Struck By Stray Bullet
“Dell has already been released from the hospital Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery,” KPRC 2 Houston Texans Reporter Aaron Wilson wrote.
“Dell was not involved in the altercation at Cabana Live and was caught in the cross-fire.”
But the story gets even more interesting. The alleged person who shot him is just a teenager. Florida police already have taken the 16-year-old into custody.
“Florida police announced that a 16-year-old suspect has been taken into custody after the incident where 10 people, including Dell, a former University of Houston standout, suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” Wilson added.
Texans Release Statement Following Incident
Dell was one of the best players in the NFL last season. He was also one of the biggest reasons that the Texans reached the playoffs. He had 47 receptions, 709 yards, and 7 touchdowns on the year. Following the shooting, the team released a statement regarding Dell.
“We have been made aware that Tank Dell was a victim of a shooting in Sanford, Fla., last night,” the team said in a statement.
As far as his health is concerned, they described Dell’s injuries as a “minor wound,” and said that their star wide receiver is in “good spirits,” following the shooting.
“He sustained a minor wound but has been released from the hospital and he is in good spirits,” the team added.
“We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate, but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”
Thankfully for Dell, he seems to have avoided what could have ended up being a major catastrophe. NFL training camps open in August. So he will have plenty of time to recover.
