Xavi Caballol, a Spanish entrepreneur and influencer, said on Oct. 19, he was piloting his small private ultralight aircraft at the Viladamat aerodrome in Girona when it suddenly plummeted to the ground.
Caballol stated the plane fell 150 feet, and he suffered from various injuries, including broken vertebrae, several broken bones, and a skull fracture. He also lost mobility in part of his face.
Along with Caballol, his partner, Alba Serch, was also in the aircraft. Following the terrifying plane crash, the influencer couple underwent rehabilitation. They are currently in wheelchairs but are learning how to walk away using physiotherapy.
Caballo revealed why he decided to share the video of the plane crash. He hopes it will help prevent future aircraft accidents.
“The video of the accident that has changed our lives.,” he explained. “We have decided to share this video despite it being traumatic for us. They tell us that ultralight aviation is very safe, and from experience, I categorically affirm that it is not. It is a beautiful world that I would reserve for commercial and private pilots with many hours of flight and experience.”
The Influencer Said He Had Done the Flight Maneuvers ‘Hundreds of Times’ Before Plane Crash
While continuing to reflect on the plane crash, Xavi Caballol shared that he had practiced the flight maneuvers “hundreds of times” and the plane had never stalled in “such a violent way” and “fall like a stone” before.
“I don’t know if it was due to a downdraft, a thermal, a sudden change in wind since we had very laminar (smooth) wind… I don’t know,” he explained. “What I do know is that I will never fly again, even though I have my pilot’s license.”
Caballol further noted that the video serves to “silence the mouths” of those who have “no idea about aviation” and have written “atrocities” about the plane crash.
“God protect you as he protected us,” he declared.
Caballol pointed out that the plane crash has changed his and Serch’s outlook on life.
“We have always been very selfish and focused on ourselves,” he added. “But this experience has made us empathize more with people, it has awakened in us the feeling of helping others. We are forever grateful for this second chance.”
