Veteran rapper Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit filed on Sunday, accusing him of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The accuser, known only as “Jane Doe,” alleged that the assault took place in 2000 after she was driven to an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards.
The federal lawsuit, initially filed in October in the Southern District of New York, named Combs as a defendant. According to NBC News, it was also refiled on Sunday to include Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter.
Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed the lawsuit, declined to comment. On Sunday evening, Carter released a detailed statement calling the allegations “idiotic” and accusing Buzbee of unprofessional behavior.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” Jay-Z insisted in the statement. “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”

In the lengthy statement, Jay-Z, 55, also calls out Buzbee.
“This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these types of theatrics! I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human, Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you I have seen your kind many times over. I’m more than prepared to deal with your type,” Jay-Z continued.
“Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable,” the rapper and mogul added.
In recent months, Buzbee has filed several lawsuits accusing Diddy of assault and rape, while keeping the complainants anonymous. This is the first case where he has named another high-profile defendant directly.
Six plaintiffs have accused Diddy of misconduct spanning from 1995 to 2021 under the Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. Among them are a 19-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy.
Meanwhile, Sean “Diddy” Combs has consistently denied all allegations made against him. Last month, a judge denied his latest request for bail ahead of his trial next year.
Diddy, 55, was arrested in mid-September on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. The veteran rapper could face a life sentence if convicted. His trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025.
