A source close to the actor told PEOPLE that he has not only moved on and is dating, but he’s “doing well” and “focused on work.” Details about the new relationship weren’t disclosed.
“[He] certainly doesn’t talk poorly about her,” the insider said about Joe Alwyn and where he stands with Taylor Swift. “He was in love with her, and it just didn’t work out.”
Speaking about Alwyn’s need for privacy, the source said that he loves acting, but cannot stand the attention that comes with the career. “He’s not comfortable in the spotlight,” they pointed out.
Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift were first linked in May 2017 and made their first public appearances together in 2018. The couple was famously known for their privacy and during a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Swift stated the relationship wasn’t up for discussion.
Swift previously shared in a since-deleted Instagram post that her song Lavender Haze referenced the challenges of dating in the spotlight.
“My relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weight rumors, tabloid stuff,” Taylor shared at the time. “And we just ignore it.”
After six years, Alwyn and Swift reportedly called it quits in April 2023. At the time, a source revealed to PEOPLE that the split was largely due to “differences in their personalities.”
The insider also stated that Alwyn always wanted to keep his romance with Swift his own “personal story.”
“[The relationship initially] took a lot of people by surprise,” the source shared.
Since the breakup, Alwyn has continued to work on his acting career. He is preparing for the premiere of his latest film project, Kinds of Kindness, and starred opposite Emma Stone.
Joe Alwyn Was Allegedly ‘Concerned’ About Taylor Swift Releasing Diss Tracks About Their Relationship
Months before Taylor Swift’s latest album The Tortured Poets Department was released, sources started claiming Joe Alwyn was concerned that his famous ex would release a diss track about their relationship.
An insider stated the actor would be “shocked” if the pop star disclosed any negative details about the long-running relationship. He also reportedly thought it would be “shady” for her to diss him in any songs.
Eagle-eye Swifties previously noted the album title was a nod to Joe Alywn. The title is notably a “play” on the actor’s The Tortured Man Club. This is a WhatsApp group he shares with friends, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.
In the group chat, the trio would share the “woes” they experienced with their significant others.
