A source close to the now-former couple confirmed to People that they had separated. TMZ also reported that they each started the new year as single.
Butler was noticeably absent from the Gerber family’s recent Mexico vacation.
Gerber and Butler became romantically linked in December 2021 when they attended a yoga session in Los Angeles. They were spotted together numerous times beforehand. They then made the red carpet debut at W Magazine’s annual Best Performance party in March 2022.
Although they walked the Met Gala 2022 red carpet separately, the two were seen sharing a kiss at the top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art staircase the same night.
In May 2022, Butler clarified that he would not publicly discuss his relationship with Gerber.
“I don’t think there’s anything I want to share about that,” he said when asked about Gerber during his 2022 GQ interview. “But thank you for providing the space.”
In May 2024, an insider told People that the duo was “going strong.”
“They held hands the entire way to dinner and stopped and hugged a few times before going into a club [on May 24],” the source explained about the couple’s Memorial Day weekend in New York City. “They definitely looked happy and in love.”
Kaia Gerber Previously Explained Why She and Austin Butler Keep a Low Profile When It Comes to Their Relationship
During an interview with the WSJ, Kaia Gerber reflected on why she and Austin Butler kept their relationship private.
“Honestly, I feel like so few things in my life are private,” she explained. “And that is one of the things that I try to keep as sacred as possible.”
She also discussed her nepo baby status.
“I don’t think it’s a topic that will go away, so I’ve clearly reached a point of acceptance,” she said. “I personally am very aware of all the wonderful things it has done for me, and I would never, ever say anything negative about it because that is my truth about it.”
“I’m very sensitive, so I don’t keep social media on my phone,” she admitted.
Gerber also said she turns to her parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, for personal and professional advice.
“I can actually ask my parents [for] advice on career things, on business things,” she said. “That’s very rare, to have parents who are in the same industry or career as you, whose advice you actually can trust.”
