Walz is currently in his second term as Minnesota governor. He previously served 12 years in Congress. He was considered one of the top three finalists for the role. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly were the other two who were up for the position.
A source close to the situation revealed to CNN that the chemistry between Kamala Harris and Tim Walz was “really important” when it came to the selection process. It “really clicked” for both of them.
“The time they spent together when Walz was campaigning for reelection in 2022,” the insider shared. “And when they visited the abortion clinic in March this year, apparently made a big impact. Then on top of that, the Harris campaign, like all of us, saw how energizing Walz was for the base. They saw how popular he is in Minnesota after passing a historic, progressive agenda here. The vetting on Walz went extremely well. So like people are saying, kind of a Goldilocks situation. Every element was just right.”
Tim Walz previously made quite a statement about Kamala Harris going up against former President Donald Trump.
“How often in 100 days do you get to change the trajectory of the world?” Walz asked during the “White Dudes For Harris” fundraiser. “How often in 100 days do you get to do something that’s going to impact generations to come? And how often in the world do you make that b—- wake up afterwards and know that a Black woman kicked his a—, sent him on the road?”

Kamala Harris’ Running Mate Tim Walz Previously Described Former President Donald Trump As ‘Weird’
Before he became Kamala Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz became one of the first democratic leaders to refer to former President Trump as being “weird.”
During three separate TV interviews in late July, Walz started using the term “weird” to describe Trump. “That stuff is weird, they come across weird,” Walz said on MSNBC while talking about the republican nominee’s priorities and remarks. He followed up on CNN Sunday by stating “I see Donald Trump talking about the wonderful Hannibal Lecter or whatever weird thing he is on tonight … That is weird behavior. I don’t think you call it anything else.”
Tim Walz’s “weird” declaration has been used by Kamala Harris as well. She told supporters in Massachusetts this weekend, “You may have noticed Donald Trump has been resorting to some wild lies about my record, and some of what he and his running mate are saying is just plain weird.”
