NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that one of the players experienced a seizure. The player also went into cardiac arrest during a meeting at the team’s facility on Thursday morning.
“The team’s medical staff worked quickly, an ambulance was called,” Pelissero reported. “And the player is currently in stable condition.”
Pelissero later revealed that BJ Thompson was the Chiefs player that suffered the medical emergency. “BJ Thompson is in stable condition after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a meeting this morning.”
He also said that Thompson was a fifth-round NFL draft pick in 2023 from Stephen F. Austin. He appeared in one game against the Los Angeles Chargers as a rookie for the Chiefs.
The NFL Network further reported that Thursday’s media availability for the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and select players was re-scheduled for Friday, June 7.
“The reigning Super Bowl champions are currently in Phase 3 of their voluntary offseason program,” the NFL Network reported. “Mandatory minicamp is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.”
Thompson was among the Chiefs teammates who visited the White House last week to celebrate the team’s back-to-back Super Bowl win.
Chiefs’ BJ Thompson Is In Stable Condition Following Health Emergency
Following the medical emergency at the Kansas City Chiefs practice facility, ESPN reported that BJ Thompson was in stable condition.
The 25-year-old athlete was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. No further details about his condition have been revealed at this time.
The Daily Mail reported that BJ Thompson shared his excitement about joining the Chiefs while speaking to the media last May.
“I just want to put on for my town and show them that anything is possible,” Thompson said at the time. “No matter where you come from. Hopefully, I am accomplishing that.”
BJ Thompson continued to speak about fulfilling his life dreams. “Me and my friends, we all had dreams and goals of NFL, NBA but along the lines, dreams kind of die off and people get other plans. For me, it never really did. I always had in the back of my head I was going to play professional sports and I was blessed enough to make it happen.”
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to resume practice on Friday.
