In their latest post on Instagram, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a black-and-white photo featuring Middleton in her wedding dress from designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and William in his red tunic of the Irish Guards. The couple captioned the post with, “13 years ago today!”
Kate Middleton and Prince William were married on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. The royal couple met while attending St. Andrews University and got engaged in 2010.
The couple has since had three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Their most recent obstacle is Middleton’s current health woes. She’s undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Kate Middleton announced the diagnosis on X (formerly Twitter) last month. She had previously undergone abdominal surgery.
Along with Middleton, Prince William’s father, King Charles, is also undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.
Kate Middleton and Prince William Previously Opened Up About Their Friendship, Break-Up, and Getting Back Together
During the 2010 engagement interview, Prince William opened up about first meeting Kate Middleton.
“When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” William said while announcing the engagement. “And then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while.”
Prince William stated that his and Kate Middleton’s friendship was a “good sort of foundation” for them. “I do genuinely believe now that being friends with [each other] is a massive advantage,” William said.
After graduation, the couple decided to break up to do some “self-exploration,” which Middleton admitted she originally was not happy about.
“Actually it made me a stronger person,” Middleton pointed out about the relationship break. “You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized – I think you can get quite consumed by the relationship when you’re younger – and I really valued that time for me, as well.”
The breakup didn’t last long and the duo started having a series of “secret” dates. Three years after reuniting, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton while they were vacationing in Kenya with friends.
“It was a total show when it came,” Middleton said about the proposal. “There’s a true romantic in there.”
Prince William then said, “As every guy out there will know, it takes a certain amount of motivation to get yourself going. So I was planning it and then it just felt really right out in Africa. It was beautiful.”
