At 42, the Princess of Wales is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy following her diagnosis in March. She has largely stayed out of the public eye this year and may continue to do so for an extended period.
The correspondence team at Kensington Palace expressed that they have been deeply moved by the love and support shown to the Princess since her health issues became public.
According to the Daily Mail, the palace has received an overwhelming number of get-well-soon cards, reportedly in the tens of thousands, for Middleton.
According to the outlet, the Palace typically receives up to 1,000 letters each week. However, this number has surged significantly following the Princess’s cancer announcement.
Furthermore, the sheer volume of letters and well-wishes sent to the royal has overwhelmed the correspondence team, making it challenging to manage the influx.
The Palace Received an Increase in Letters Since Kate Middleton Announced Her Cancer Diagnosis
At the beginning of the year, Kate was unexpectedly hospitalized for major abdominal surgery. She spent two weeks recovering at The London Clinic before returning home to continue recuperating.
In March, after intense global speculation about her health, the princess confirmed that although her condition was initially not believed to be cancerous, doctors later found evidence of the disease.
Earlier this week, Kensington Palace emphasized that she still requires time and space for recovery. At the launch of a landmark report by her early years ‘business taskforce,’ a spokesman clarified that this news should not be interpreted as her returning to work.
“The Princess of Wales was the driving force behind the business task force,” a senior royal aide said. “She has been kept up to date since the inception of the task force. She has read the report and been briefed on it.”
“This is a clear commitment she has made that throughout her life of public service that this will be focus. That will continue when she returns to work,” they continued.
“But we have been really clear that she needs the space and the privacy to recover right now. She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors.”
Of course, Kate Middleton isn’t the only royal facing health challenges. King Charles, 75, disclosed his cancer diagnosis in February. Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, revealed her fight against an aggressive skin cancer in January.
