On Tuesday, the “Roar” singer unveiled a teaser for her upcoming music video, featuring Perry donning the attire of the American cultural icon in what appears to be a women-empowering anthem.
“Celebrate,” Perry purrs in the clip. “We ain’t going away.”
The video teaser blends factory and construction blue-collar imagery with Perry’s signature sultry style. Notably, one standout moment features a close-up of Perry’s cleavage adorned with a sparkly American Flag top, which she showcased on the Fourth of July.
The video also features clips of Perry guzzling “Whiskey for Women” down her gullet and playing with a bedazzled hammer. The footage wraps up with an anvil dropping Perry’s head, resulting in a classic cartoon-style flattening. A title card then proclaims the full video will drop on Thursday, July 11th.
The Internet Reacts to Katy Perry’s Purehearted Rosie the Riveter Tribute
Of course, Katy Perry fans loved her new video tease. On X, one fan raved, “celebr-ATE, WE ARE SO READY”. Another added, “QUEEN OF POP BACK,” to the likely eye rolls of the Beyhive and Swifties everywhere (not to mention lovers of the English language).
“Katy knows how to sell an image like a pro,” a third fan gushed. “Wow! I’m so hyped for this! I can’t wait! Queen!”, yet another fan exclaimed.
Meanwhile, many fans were impressed with the U.S.A.-themed costuming. “This is patriotism in its finest form,” a fan insisted. Others loved the shot showcasing Perry’s sparkling Stars and Stripes top.
However, on Perry’s video tease reveal on Instagram, some of the top comments were less supportive. Somehow, they seemed to miss Perry’s pure-hearted and not at all cynical patriotic stance and focused on how much skin the “I Kissed a Girl” singer showed.
“Sad to see how many people praise this depravity,” one possible communist wrote. “Why [do] women singers always have to use s3x appeal over talent? Taylor Swift doesn’t have to,” a likely Russian bot also asked.
