Speaking to Vogue for the summer 2024 magazine cover story, Jenner opened up about having meltdowns on airplanes during the early days of her model career.
“They would come out of nowhere,” she said about the meltdowns. “I’d be like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God,’ something’s wrong with my heart: palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, double vision, tingles. The whole thing.”
Kendall Jenner recalled calling her mom, Kris Jenner, “hysterically crying” while in midflight. “[I remember saying], ‘I need them to stop the plane, I need them to turn around.'”
Jenner further explained that in the years since her meltdowns, she learned ways to keep her anxiety in check while on planes. This includes taking deep breaths, distractions, meditation, journaling, weekly psychotherapy, and periodic consultations with a spiritual healer.
She shared it has been two years since she had her last panic attack. Her approach to mental health has inspired others, including her good friend Hailey Bieber.
“Kendall is somebody who really cares about growing and knowing herself better and going deeper with herself,” Bieber shared. “I really respect that about her.”
Bieber pointed out that she and Kendal Jenner have done things together for the mind, body, and soul. Among them are cold plunges or saunas, a really cool naturopath, a new skin-care product or supplement, a trainer, or somebody who does sound baths.
“It’s nice when your friend is as into taking care of herself as you are,” Bieber pointed out. “And we share a little black book of wellness contacts.”
Kendall Jenner Opens Up About Advice She Received From Her Sister Khloe
Also reflecting on how she handles online criticism and internet trolls, Kendall Jenner recalls the one piece of advice she received from her sister Khloé Kardashian about how to navigate social media.
“She said to me, ‘You’ll scroll through comments and you’ll see a kajillion I love you’s, you’re great, you’re so pretty, you’re the best,” Jenner recalled. “And the one comment that’s not nice is the one you’re going to harp on.’ It’s so true, They’re just so… loud.”
Despite the harsh words, Kendall Jenner said she’s learned to ignore the negativity.
“Why do we fixate on these? Are they a projection of our own insecurities?” she asked. “A huge thing I work on in therapy is feeling worthy of where I’m at and knowing that I can’t let what’s being said about me on the internet, especially about my worthiness, get in my head too much. I let it get there, and I think that’s what brings me down a lot of the time.”
Jenner pointed out that she believes she’s one of the luckiest girls in the world. She then added that she appreciates all of her social media followers.
