The event took place at The Hollywood Bowl during Memorial Day Weekend. North was cast as Young Simba and hit the spotlight to sing “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.”
However, North was met with heavy online criticism over the performance. Some online trolls even described her as a “nepo baby” who only got the role due to who her parents are.
Kim Kardashian shares North with ex-husband Kanye West.
In response to the remarks, Kim posted a series of photos featuring North in her Lion King costume, which was designed by Kanye. She used the lion emoji in the caption.
The critics quickly flooded the post’s comment section with “nepo baby” comments. Many also questioned Kim Kardashian about why she wouldn’t let North audition.
“I’m sure you’re proud of your kid and you think she’s the bees knees… HOWEVER, you should NEVER give your kid a position that they didn’t EARN,” one critic wrote. “Make her train, do lessons, all the things!! Encourage her to work hard and perfect her craft. You literally set this poor girl up to fail miserably and in the public eye-where everyone knows she only got this role because of you, Kim.”
Another critic then wrote Kim should have let North audition. “That way she would have failed miserably there instead of on a main stage, being laughed at by the world.”
Sources Reveals How Kim Kardashian’s Daughter North Land ‘The Lion King’ Role
Not long after the performance went viral, sources revealed to The Daily Mail how Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter North landed the role.
According to the insiders, North didn’t have to “compete against anyone else” for the park. It was noted that the special performance’s production company, Fulwell 73 Productions, is the same production behind The Kardashians.
It was also reported that Fulwell 73’s partner, Gabe Turner, was the creative showrunner for The Lion King production. “This was a shoo-in for North,” the sources pointed out. “And she was told that if she can carry a note the gig is hers,” the source pointed out.
North also making headlines for her performance in the show was a key factor that landed her the role.
“They were hoping to draw publicity for this, which they did,’ the source noted. “But North didn’t have to compete against anyone else and anyone else who would have auditioned would have not gotten it anyways.”
