The King went to the Macmillan Cancer Centre at the University College Hospital on Tuesday, April 30. His wife, Queen Camilla accompanied him to visit the patients and speak about the importance of early cancer detection.
Royal reporter, Chris Ship of ITV, took to X (formerly Twitter) to report on the conversations King Charles had with the patients. He also shared a video of the King visiting the medical center.
“Many patients said afterward they felt a personal connection with as he understood what they have been through and are still going through.”
When asked by a patient how he was doing, the King reportedly said, “I’m alright, thank you very much, not too bad.”
David Probert, chief executive of University College Hospital London, shared the King was “full of great energy” during his visit.
Buckingham Palace announced earlier this year that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer. Palace officials did not reveal what type of cancer or the stage.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the statement read. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
Buckingham Palace Annoucnes King Charles Is Ready to Resume His Royal Duties
Although reports recently revealed he was “very unwell” and officials were updating funeral plans, royal officials shared that the King was actually ready to resume his royal duties.
“His Majesty’s treatment program will continue,” the officials shared in a statement. “But doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far.”
The officials also said that King Charles is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties. “Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimize any risks to His Majesty’s continued recovery.”
Officials pointed out that the King was greatly encouraged to resume his duties. “[He’s] very grateful for his medical team for their continued care and expertise.”
Meanwhile, King Charles’ nephew, Peter Phillips recently spoke about the royal being frustrated by his limitations during his cancer treatment.
“The overriding message would be that he’s obviously very keen to get back to a form of normality,” Phillips said. “And he’s probably frustrated that, recovery is taking a little longer than probably he would want it to.”
Philip also describes his uncle as being very pragmatic. “He understands that there’s a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself.”
