In a recent interview with The Guardian, Kravitz confirmed that he has embraced celibacy as a form of spirituality. This update comes after his memoir, in which he revealed his father’s infidelity involving many women. When he caught his father cheating on his mother, his dad told him he would end up repeating the same pattern.
Unfortunately, his dad was right.
“He became right,” he said in his interview. “After the marriage, I became more like him. I was becoming a player.”
“I didn’t like it,” he continued. “I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years.”
He then went on to explain that he addressed the issue “by taking responsibility. Discipline. Not letting my own desires take over.”
This led to his journey with celibacy, which has lasted for nine years so far.
“It’s a spiritual thing,” he said.
When asked whether he’d like to be in a relationship right now, he revealed that he would. However, “I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live.”
Lenny Kravitz Opens Up About Celibate Journey and Sexual Abuse
Also in his memoir, Kravitz opened up about being pursued by a woman in her 20s when he was only 13.
“Yes, she did do that, but that wasn’t …” he paused. “In today’s world, yes, that was abuse and assault. It was this chick who saw this young teenager and thought I was cute and I’m going to give him some. Any young boy would have taken that opportunity and enjoyed the hell out of it.”
He then went on to explain that he stopped her before they could actually have sex.
“I had a girlfriend,” he claimed was the reason. “She thought it was comical – ‘You have a girlfriend?!‘”
Despite the major age difference — and Kravitz being far below the age of consent — he didn’t necessarily deem it assault, stating she stopped when he told her to.
“I can’t speak for everyone, but that would have been a fantasy for so many kids,” he said. “But, for me, it’s not what I wanted.”
