Sneed confirmed the news in a Facebook post last Thursday, Nov. 21. “Guys! This is NOT a cheating scandal,” she clarified. “Lyle and I have been separate for a while now but remain best friends and family.”
Lyle Menendez’s now estranged wife also stated that she is continuing to run his pages, with input from him. “I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom,” she continued. “As has been so evidence over the years.”
“Please keep this page as the abuse survivor support page Lyle wants it to be,” Sneed added. “ I’ll continue to update you all on the progress of the case because I believe we all have the common goal of seeing the guys walk free! I will never stop fighting for them. Please continue to join us in this fight!”
Sneed was referring to Lyle and his brother, Erik Mendendez’s fight to be released from prison after nearly 30 years. In 1996, the Menendez brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. The murders took place in 1989.
Sneed confirmed the separation just after the Daily Mail published a report revealing that Lyle was allegedly having an affair with a 21-year-old British college student.
Lyle was previously married to Anna Eriksson, whom he married during a prison ceremony in 1996. They divorced in 2001 after Eriksson found out Menendez cheated on her with another woman.
Lyle Menendez’s Wife Started Sending Him Letter Shortly After His 1990 Arrest
According to Us Weekly, Lyle Menendez’s wife, Rebecca Sneed, first started corresponding with him shortly after his 1990 arrest. Despite Lyle being behind bars, he and Rebecca grew closer over the years. They eventually got married in 2003.
In a 2017 interview with ABC News, Menendez opened up about his marriage with Sneed. “One thing I’ve learned is that your physical comfort is much less important than your connection with the people around you,” he explained.
Lyle further shared, “I’ve found I can have a healthy marriage that is complicated and built around conversation and finding creative ways to communicate, sharing, without all the props that are normally there in marriage in terms of going out to dinner and having as much intimate time together and so on.”
Also during the same interview, Lyle admitted to being “more at peace” with being in prison for the rest of his life.
“It’s shocking to think… that I could have been involved in taking anyone’s life,” he noted. “And my parents’ life… It seems unimaginable because it seems so far removed from who I am. But I found that my own childhood prepared me surprisingly well for the chaos of prison life.”
Along with Lyle, Erik also found love while behind bars. He has been married to his wife, Tammi Saccoman, since 1999.
