The reality TV star previously underwent gastric sleeve surgery and dropped more than 100 pounds nearly a decade ago. However, she appeared to gain the weight all back and has decided to use semglutide to lose the pounds. The drug is a generic form of Ozempic.
In a new video she posted on her social media accounts, Mama June stated that since the surgery she “kinda” kept off the weight. “I stayed at like 130, 140, 150,” she said. “Well, I have noticed over the last, like, year and a half, that I’ve really put on weight.”
Shannon then said the past year has been incredibly stressful. She had previously been caring for her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who died in Dec. 2023 after battling ovarian cancer for a year.
“With the stress of everything going on, eating out, not eating right, just all kinds of stuff,” Mama June explained. “I have packed on about 120, 130 pounds.”
After months of eating less and cutting back on fattening foods, Shannon admitted to struggling to drop the weight. “I have decided to go with semaglutide a couple months ago through my main doctor,” she continued.
Mama June is planning to update her fans on weekly progress throughout her weight loss journey. She then said she was going to pay more attention to how her clothes are fitting, instead of what the scale reads.
Mama June Encourages Her Social Media Followers to ‘Come Along’ On Her Current Weight Loss Journey
Along with sharing details about how she’s planning to lose weight, Mama June encouraged her social media followers to be part of the journey.
“Come along with me as I go through this journey,” she wrote in the video’s caption. “I know a lot of y’all are on similar journeys so let’s do it together.”
Mama June also encouraged those who are losing weight to share their experiences, including the pros and cons of their weight loss approaches.
“I will be updating every week how things are going as I know I’m not the only person that has struggled since having a bariatric surgery.”
Shannon previously spoke about how she didn’t want to try weightloss injection, Ozempic, because she had heard about the medication’s side effects.
“It is using a drug that isn’t really prescribed to do that,” she told the Daily Mail. The medication is used to treat diabetes but has been approved for weight loss. “They’re using a diabetic drug to take care of weight loss.”
