According to court documents obtained by WCVB, Frank Griswold, 80, walked into the kitchen after his meal to wash his dishes. His roommate, Richard Lombardi, 65, then threw Griswold to the ground causing him to hit his head.
Apparently, the two men argued earlier about Griswold standing too close to the feast. Lombardi claimed that his roommate “often sneezes” and that he didn’t want him to “contaminate the food.” Lombardi also told police that he “shoved him away” when he saw Griswold getting too close to the leftovers.
Lombardi said that he “surmised that Frank Griswold’s feet got tangled up, and he fell and hit his head on the floor.” Following the man’s fall, he did not get up. Lombardi then called 911.
Prosecutor Joseph Presley said, “He did see the victim, Mr. Griswold, near that food doing dishes, said that he went over and grabbed Mr. Griswold from behind, grabbed his back and threw Mr. Griswold to the right and tossed him to the side.”
When first responders arrived, Griswold was “laying face-up on the floor in the kitchen in a pool of blood.” Lombardi has been charged “with assault and battery on a person 60 and over, causing serious injury, and involuntary manslaughters.” He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The men weren’t strangers to one another, as they had been living together for more than 20 years. WCVB also added that the roommates had been friends for three decades. Lombardi is due to appear in court on December 4th.
