Mandisa started her fame on Season 5 of American Idol, during which she made it to ninth place. After leaving the show, she continued to pursue her music career.
According to Wide Open Country, “[Mandisa] ended up being nominated for multiple GRAMMY Awards and Dove Awards for her Christian music. She also won the K-LOVE Fan Award twice. Her 2013 album Overcomer won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. K-LOVE remembered the singer and how she had a very kind soul.”
Mandisa of ‘American Idol’ Found Dead at 47
Those who have worked with Mandisa shared their deep sadness and condolences for the terrible loss. Specifically, Beth Moore — an American evangelist and author — posted to X about her connection with Mandisa.
“I have never known a more beautiful woman in every possible way than Mandisa. Our only consolation in this terrible loss is having gotten the privilege to serve with her so many times and love her deeply. I will forever recall the event when I said to Travis, oh my gosh, we’ll never be able to keep her. She will spring from this nest and fly to a much larger stage. And, boy, did she. We will love you forever, Mandisa. And see you soon.”
Additionally, David Pierce, K-LOVE Chief Media Officer, wrote his own statement:
“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart.”
“Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles,” he continued. “Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”
