Following her breakup with her long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn, Taylor briefly dated Matty in the spring of last year. However, the two have apparently been on and off for the past decade, sometimes rekindling between their relationships.
Nevertheless, fans believe Taylor wrote quite a few songs about him on her new album. Namely, “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” paints a (not-so-pretty) picture of Matty, hinting at his drug use, controversial history, and betrayal.
In fact, some of the lyrics include: “You tried to buy some pills / From a friend of friends of mine / They just ghosted you / Now you know what it feels like.”
According to the Daily Mail, “Healy has openly spoken about his drug problems in the past, and has said in interviews he is tired of speculation about his height, claiming to be 5ft 10ins, but dwarfed by other members of The 1975.”
Many Swifties believe the references in Taylor’s song certainly line up with Matty as a person. In fact, Taylor’s fans have taken to social media to bash Matty, who is now allegedly dating model Gabbriette Bechtel. According to Matty’s aunt, Debbie Dedes, he is “very happy.”
Matty Healy’s Aunt Speaks Out About His and Taylor Swift’s Relationship
When asked how she thought Matty would react to Taylor’s new album, Debbie, who spoke to Daily Mail, said that “nothing surprises [Matty] anymore.”
“He will not be surprised by the song,” she revealed. “Him and her know what went on.”
Additionally, Debbie — Matty’s mom’s sister — added, “[Taylor] writes about all her relationships, doesn’t she? I don’t think it will come as a shock to him at all.”
However, “As my nephew, we know a bit more about what went on than has been in the press.” She then went on to add that he’s “very happy” in his current relationship, which is likely where he will be focusing his energy now.
Debbie didn’t share any further details of Taylor and Matty’s relationship, but she did hint that he was remaining quiet in order to respect Taylor and their relationship. In other words, he has his own version of the story.
TTPD came out on Friday, April 19 — with a surprise double album announced at 2 a.m. Many fans believe it’s Taylor’s best album to date.
