PEOPLE reports that in the new Investigation Discovery docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, Jones reflected on reaching out to Melissa Schuman after the former Dream bandmate alleged Nick had raped her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003.
Schuman made the allegations in a 2017 blog post on her website. She stated she was an 18-year-old virgin when the rape occurred. Carter denied he raped Schuman. He acknowledged they had sex, but said it was consensual.
At the time, Jones grew concerned over the social media uproar against Schuman. “Nick Carter was my boyfriend when I was in the Pussycat Dolls,” Jones explained.
“And I saw the very detailed allegation about Nick and the response. It bothered me. Because it was discrediting this girl [Schuman]. So I wanted to hear what Melissa had to say.”
Jones then reached out to Schuman on Twitter and sent her phone number. Schuman then called her.
“Kaya was so kind to me,” Schuman recalled. “I think we must’ve spoken for hours. I needed someone to tell me that my life wasn’t over.”
After he publicly denied Schuman’s allegations, Jones a warning to Nick Carter in 2017. “Don’t lie, Nick,” she wrote. “I’m no longer keeping your secrets.”
Jones then hinted at an undisclosed situation that made her break up with him. “I saw a young woman trying to speak and someone who thought he had more power and authority try to shut her up. I tweeted that,” she reflected.
“It was my way of saying, ‘Don’t push it.’ because he knows what I know. He knows why I left him. And so do I believe that something horrific happened to that girl? Yes. Yes, I do.”
Jones further stated in the docuseries that she knows things about Carter that “could burn his whole house down.”
“I know how evil he can be,” she added.
Nick Carter Filed a Lawsuit Against Melissa Schuman and Another Accuser in 2023
In February 2023, Schuman was part of the countersuit filed by Carter against Shannon Ruth, who had sued him in December 2022 for alleged sexual battery.
In his suit, Cater claimed Ruth and Schuman had taken advantage of the #MeToo movement and used it to launch a “conspiracy” to “defame and vilify” him. Schuman then sued Carter in April 2023 for sexual assault and battery over the 2003 incident.
