One of this week’s tabloids claims Nicole Kidman stage and intervention for Keith Urban and sent him to rehab after he nearly relapsed earlier this year. The story is completely false. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.

Urban went to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction just a few months into his marriage in 2006, but he’s been sober ever since. According to New Idea, however, the country star “came close to a breakdown” earlier this year and his wife had to step in to save him. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Keith’s been through a rough few months. After he and Nicole hit a rocky patch, he came close to relapsing and spent two weeks at a rehab facility.”
The supposed source continues, “Nicole was his rock through it all, and despite the hurdles they were facing in their marriage, she put it all to the side and stuck by him – ensuring he got all the help he needed to battle with his past demons.” The questionable tipster further contends that Kidman “even moved a life coach into their home to work with him and help him mentally prepare for his tour.”
The tabloid’s report is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “source,” but Gossip Cop is told on the record by Urban’s rep that it’s complete nonsense. The country star didn’t come close to a relapse earlier this year, nor did he check into a treatment facility. Tellingly, the unreliable magazine doesn’t mention when this supposed incident even occurred.
Earlier this year, Urban opened up about his sobriety during a South by Southwest panel, noting that he has “less fear” since his wife helped him get clean 12 years ago. The musician has been committed to his sobriety ever since. The idea that spouses were having marriage problems isn’t true either. Gossip Cop busted the magazine in April for falsely claiming that Kidman and Urban were getting a “$413 million divorce.” Now that it’s clear the couple’s marriage is going strong, the outlet is seemingly trying to save face by alleging that Urban went to rehab to save their relationship. It’s simply not the case.
This year alone, Kidman and Urban have attended several events together, including awards shows and red carpet premieres. The spouses always praise each other while accepting awards, including at January’s Golden Globes, where she won Best Actress for “Big Little Lies,” and this month’s CMA Awards, where he won Entertainer of the Year. The happy spouses are also often spotted on date nights, and the actress has joined her husband on stage at several of his concerts. There’s zero indication they’ve been having any marital issues or that the musician has been struggling to stay sober. The tabloid’s article is a complete work of fiction.
