Not only is it the first time she’s been spotted since her infamous father’s death, the media outlet noted that she hasn’t been publicly photographed in nearly six years.
O.J. Simpson shared Sydney and her younger brother Justin with his late second wife, Nicole Brown. She was only eight years old when her mother was murdered on June 12, 1994. O.J. was quickly deemed a suspect in the murder due to his violent past with Brown. He was charged with her murder as well as the murder of her friend, Ron Goldman.
He was acquitted of the murders in 1995.
Although their father’s life was constantly thrust into the spotlight, Sydney and Justin managed to stay out of the public eye. They also have not spoken out about their father, except for announcing his death with their oldest half-siblings, Jason and Amelle.
O.J. Simpson’s children released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) announcing he died on April 10. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” the statement reads. The family asked for privacy and grace during the period of transition.
Simpson’s estate executor has since confirmed the late athlete only had one close family member by his side when he died.
O.J. Simpson’s Children Were Living With Nicole Brown’s Parents During His Infamous1994 Murder Trial
After he was found not guilty of murdering Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, O.J. Simpson had to fight for the custody of Sydney and Justin. The children had been living with their maternal grandparents, Louis and Judith Brown since their father’s 1994 arrest.
After the court ruled in O.J. Simpson’s favor and gave the children back to him, the Browns released a statement about the decision. They admitted to being concerned about Syndey and Justin’s well-being while they were with their father.
“We love Sydney and Justin and pray for their safety and well-being as they return to their father,” the Browns stated, per CNN.
The Browns’ attorney, Natasha Roit, slammed Judge Wieben-Stock’s decision. She stated the evidence proving Simpson’s domestic violence tendencies was clearly ignored.
“It is illogical to us that [the judge] can decide a cast on domestic…without considering the evidence of murder,” Roit stated.
During the custody case, O.J. Simpson’s attorneys argued that as the biological parent, he should be allowed to care for his children.
