Simpson’s estate executor, Malcolm LaVergne, told TMZ confirmed the remains were turned into jewelry. The athlete was cremated in April shortly after he died at the age of 76. All four of his children signed off on having the remains be made into trinkets. LaVergne also stated that he provided written consent for the process.
The estate executor did not reveal what kind of jewelry was given, but TMZ stated that it’s usually necklaces or bracelets that have a miniature urn as pendants.
LaVergne then shared that he did not receive any of the jewelry nor was he interested in any of the pieces. The cost of the process was $4,243.06. This included the cost of cremation, the jewelry, and death certificates.
Meanwhile, LaVergne is trying to liquidate the majority of O.J. Simpson’s assets to pay off the late athlete’s high debt.
O.J. Simpson died on April 10 following a battle with prostate cancer. In a statement on Twitter, his family shared, “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Ron Goldman’s Family Files Claim That O.J. Simpson’s Estate Owes Them $117 Million
Meanwhile, Ron Goldman’s surviving family member have filed a creditor’s claim against the O.J. Simpson estate and is seeking $117 million. According to NBC News, the claim was filed in Clark County District Court in connection with a wrongful death suit.
The former NFL star made headlines in 1994 after he was arrested and charged with the June 12, 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. However, following the lengthy “Trial of the Century,” Simpson was found not guilty.
A few later, he was found liable for the deaths and ordered to pay millions to the pair’s families. Neither family has seen the money, but LaVergne previously stated they will, even though he originally vowed they wouldn’t see a dime.
According to the claim’s documents, Ron’s father Fred stated the total amount owed to him by Simpson’s estate was $117,041,675.27 after the 1997 judgment was renewed three times in California court. This happened in 2006, 2015, and 2022. During the 2022 renewal, the amount was increased to $96.3 million. However, since then, $20.6 million in accrued interest has been added.
“After July 25, 2024, the Claim Amount will accrue interest at the daily rate of $26,402.3630 until paid,” the document revealed.
Fred previously stated that he and his ex-wife had managed to collect only a little of the amount owed to them. “It wasn’t about the money — it was about justice,” he said at the time.
Fred also broke his silence about O.J. Simpson’s death, telling NBC News, “The only thing I have to say is it’s just further reminder of Ron being gone all these years. It’s no great loss to the world. It’s a further reminder of Ron’s being gone.”
