Portals.org, the European company behind the art installation, set up the portal that linked Dublin to New York. Multiple sources report that the 24/7 livestream allowed people in Dublin to see what was going on in New York City. The pair of portals were separated by more than 3,000.
The New York City Portal was in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, while the Portal in Dublin was placed near O’Connell Street.
USA Today reports Portals.org previously set up portals in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Lublin, Poland. Those were installed in 2021. However, the New York CIty and Dublin portals were set up just for a few days before Portals Organization pulled the plug due to the OnlyFans model’s actions.
Ava Louise said she had flashed the portal’s camera following its installment. In a post on Instagram, the model stated she thought the people in Dublin deserved to see “two New York, homegrown potatoes.”
The OnlyFans model then shared a clip of her boyfriend talking to the portal’s security later on. The staff member told him that the portal would be “down for quite some time” in an effort to stop vulgar actions.
“It’s very unfortunate that people are not acting in the best way,” the staff member stated.
Dublin Officials Say Majority of Portal Interactions Were ‘Positive’ Before OnlyFans Model’s Actions
The Dublin City Council revealed the “overwhelming majority” of portal interactions between the city and New York City were positive. However, a “very small minority of people” had engaged in “inappropriate behavior,” which includes the OnlyFans model.
“While we cannot control all of these actions, we are implementing some technical solutions to address [the behavior],” the council shared, per BBC. “And these will go live in the next 24 hours.”
The council also stated it will monitor the solution over the coming days with partners in New York City. This is to ensure the portals “continue to deliver a positive experience for both cities and the world.”
The New York Post reports there was also some inappropriate behavior on the Ireland side. Some people allegedly flashed swastikas and even a photo of the September 11 attacks.
Portals.org reportedly stated that the interruption on Monday morning was due to a “technical glitch.”
The portals are reportedly back up and running. “Our teams (portals.org and AVSPL) are doing their best to ensure smooth and consistent operations in order to come as close as possible to a 24/7 active livestream,” the company shared in a statement.
