In an Instagram post on Friday, May 3, McCartney shared the clip of a woman named Adrienne from Brooklyn telling a journalist after The Beatles arrived in New York City in 1963 that if he was listening, she wanted to let him know she loved him with all of her heart. This was a significant trip, as it was the first time McCartney and his bandmates went to America to tour.
McCartney then appeared in the present day to invite Adrienne to attend his Beatles photo exhibition, which is currently at the Brooklyn Museum.
“And Adrienne from Brooklyn if you are listening, Paul McCartney from Liverpool loves you too,” he wrote in the caption. “60 years after The Beatles arrived in New York on their first trip to America, Paul’s photographic record of Beatlemania is now on display at the Brooklyn Museum!”
The exhibit, titled “Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm” is now open and runs until August 18. It features more than 250 photos by the musician through the lens of his Pentax camera during the height of Beatlemania in 1963-64.
“Displayed alongside video clips and archival material, the photographs not only showcase McCartney’s artistic versatility but also serve as a personal and historical record,” the exhibit’s description reads.
Paul McCartney Said He Rediscovered the Photos in 2020 While Preparing an Exhibition For His Late Wife’s Photographs
During a 2023 interview with The Face, Paul McCartney said he rediscovered his photos in 2020 while he was preparing an exhibition of the photographs taken by his late wife Linda.
“Well, it literally was something I thought I lost,” he explained, pointing out he hadn’t seen the photos in 60 years. “I was just talking to a girl in our office who is a photo archivist. I said, ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve got a feeling I took a lot of pictures in the ’60s, do you have any idea where they might be?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, we’ve got them. They’re in the archive.’”
Speaking about the archive, Paul McCartney pointed out there was “stuff” that he thought he’d never see again. “And then suddenly, all of that’s there,” he said. “It’s like magic. It’s like some old scrapbook that you discover of your family or something. ‘Wow, I never knew that…’ ‘Oh yeah, Auntie Mary took this.’”
Cartney pointed out that it was like a gift to see all his stuff come back. “And then, the thing is that it’s not like a family snapshot album, because they’re kind of nice pictures.”
