Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Are Reportedly Allowed to Keep More Than 20 Gifts From Nigeria Tour
Despite senior royal working protocols, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly allowed to keep the more than 20 gifts they received during their recent visit to Nigeria.
The New York Post reports that since they are no longer working royals, Harry and Meghan accepted the gifts. They were seen taking their gifts on the plane as they headed back to their home in Montecito, California.
During their trip, the couple received numerous gifts. Among the items received were jewelry, artwork, and clothing.
According to official royal policy, working members of the royal family are not allowed to accept gifts from various organizations. Among these organizations are government bodies, trade associations, guilds, and civil bodies. They also can’t take items from the armed services, charities, or similar organizations. The policy was updated in 2003.
However, presents such as flowers, food, and books, are allowed to be accepted. This is as long as they amount to less than $200 each. It was also noted that a royal record is kept of all official gifts given to the family.
