During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Gomez stated that Cobain was her music idol and said her obsession with him ran deep.
“I just think my mom, obviously, would play all kinds of music for me growing up,” she explained. “I kind of got obsessed and dyed my hair and cut my hair like him.”
Selena Gomez also said that she knew “a little too much” about Cobain. “Yeah, I would rewatch his interviews, I would watch his performances, I had seen his documentary like 12 times.”
According to PEOPLE, Gomez hadn’t previously spoken about her obsession for Cobain. However, she did tease it over the years. In 2017, she dyed her hair blonde and went with a “‘90s-inspired” bleached-out look. Her colorist at the time dubbed the color “Nirvana Blonde.”
Also in 2017, Gomez shared a series of photos with “all apologies” in the caption. She seemingly referenced the song of the same name by Nirvana.
Selena Gomez Says ‘Different Version’ of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is Happening
Along with talking about Kurt Cobain, Selena Gomez told Jimmy Kimmel about the new version of her hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place.
Disney Channel recently announced that the revival of the show is happening, with David Henrie reprising his role as Justin Russo and Gomez returning as Alex.
“It’s going to be really fun and I was excited to bring the characters back,” Selena Gomez stated. “It’s not a reboot, it’s going to be a different version.”
The original series ran from 2007 to 2012. It followed the adventures of the Russo siblings as they navigated through life as young wizards in New York City.
Gomez also recently spoke to her former co-stars Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise about her time on the set. She stated she had to hide her love for the TV show Friends because it “triggered certain people.”
“I asked how you had such impeccable timing. You guys were so clever and funny so young,” DeLuise said. “And you said to me, ‘Don’t tell anybody, but I’ve watched every episode of Friends.’ I guess you weren’t allowed to watch Friends or something? But I was just going to say, you were very influenced by them, right?”
Gomez responded, “Now I’ve had the opportunity to meet some of them, and I freak out to this day. “I think it was because I wasn’t really… actually, I do know why. It triggered certain people. I just had to be annoyingly shy about it.”
